A to JazZ Presents Japanese Jazz Sensation Takuya Kuroda for the First Time in Sofia!
One of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz, Japanese trumpeter, composer, and producer Takuya Kurodawill perform his first-ever concert in Sofia on November 17, 2026, at the Toplocentrala Regional Centre for Contemporary Arts.
Born in Kobe, Japan, and firmly established on the New York music scene, Kuroda has built an international reputation by effortlessly blurring the boundaries between jazz, funk, post-bop, hip-hop, and neo-soul, making him one of the most influential artists of his generation.
Audiences in Sofia will have the opportunity to experience live music from his latest and eighth studio album, Everyday(2025) — a project widely regarded by critics as a natural continuation of the acclaimed Midnight Crisp (2022). With Everyday, Kuroda reaches a new level in his pursuit of the perfect balance between modern production and organic live performance, combining the pulse of hip-hop and neo-soul with the rich traditions of contemporary jazz.
For more than two decades, Kuroda has been developing his career in the United States. After studying composition at The New School in New York, he immersed himself in the city’s vibrant music scene, collaborating with groups such as DJ Premier’s Badder Band and Akoya Afrobeat, while recording both as a leader and sideman for prestigious labels including Blue Note and Concord. His name has become closely associated with the artists and movements that have shaped the new face of contemporary Black music.
At the heart of Everyday lies groove — that irresistible rhythmic energy that connects every composition and transforms a Takuya Kuroda performance into an experience that goes far beyond traditional jazz. His unmistakable, pure trumpet sound, combined with the warm textures of the Rhodes piano and synthesizers, creates a sonic landscape where the influences of Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper, Thundercat, and the modern New York scene converge, always filtered through Kuroda’s unique artistic vision.
Takuya Kuroda’s concert in Sofia promises to be one of the landmark encounters with the international jazz scene in 2026 — an event bringing together the energy of New York’s club culture, the spirit of modern groove, and the uncompromising artistry of one of today’s most exciting trumpet players.
